ACOG HISTORY

The Apostolic Church of God began as a small ministry in the home of Sister Dorothy Perry in 1937. Sister Edna Owens from Dayton, Ohio was the church’s Overseer. Sister Perry and Sister Walker were the only members of the church until Elder Gus C. Hogan began holding evangelical tent meetings. Services were held at Sister Perry’s home until 1944 when a new facility was built. Elder Hogan served as pastor until 1964, and under his leadership, the church continue to grow. Elder Andrew C. Strong served as Interim Pastor from 1964 to 1967.

In 1970, Elder Walter McBride served as Interim Pastor until Bishop Robert Little officially installed Elder Herman Finley as Pastor in 1970. After 10 years of ministry, the church transitioned into a new facility at 605 Washington, St. Elder Finley’s 30 years of outstanding leadership came to an end when he became ill and later passed in 2000. During his illness, Elder John Birdsong and Elder Kelvin Davis served as interim pastors until 2001 when Elder Jonathon Pulliam, Sr. began to serve as Interim Pastor. On March 1, 2002, the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith, Incorporated along with its Southeastern District Council officially appointed Bishop Jonathon Pulliam, Sr. as the Interim Pastor. On January 15, 2003, Bishop Pulliam was installed as Pastor of the Apostolic Church of God. In 2007, the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith, Incorporated confirmed Bishop Pulliam as District Elder over the state of Alabama.

On September 3, 2014, the Apostolic Church of God moved to its current location on 801 Fretwell Avenue, SW, Decatur, AL 35601. This new location sits on a 10 acre worship campus including a 300 seat sanctuary, children’s ministry building, and a youth ministry building with administrative office space. Bishop Pulliam hasthe vision to move the Apostolic Church of God forward in northern Alabama. While dedicated to evangelizing and teaching the Gospel, God continues to grow the church in ways Apostolic Church of God never imagined.
